Marcus's robot companion
Lucas is a clever little blue robot and Marcus's friendly companion on adventures beyond our sky.
Stories
On the way home, Marcus notices the trees, houses and guardrails rushing backward while the Sun stays almost still. Is it really following the car? He and Lucas watch the window quietly and find that near things race past while far things barely seem to move — and the Sun is very, very far away.
Stories
Marcus cannot sleep, and thinking of his grandmother far away, he asks Lucas whether things still matter to us once they are far apart. Down at a quiet night beach, the water pulls far back and then creeps slowly in again — the tide. Far away does not mean not connected.
Stories
Marcus's nightlight has stopped working and his room is completely dark. That night, Lucas takes him to see a total solar eclipse, and for two dark minutes he sees the ring of light that is always there. Some things only show themselves in the dark.
Stories
Marcus and Lucas travel through a reflection to a mirror Mars with a real blue sea. The waves are far taller than ours but move so slowly they hardly look real. On the beach, Marcus meets a small four-eared animal listening to the water.
Stories
Marcus has lost a drawing and cannot find it anywhere. That night, Lucas takes him to Mars, where a whole sea sleeps beneath the red sand and turns over once every night. Gone does not always mean gone forever.
Stories
Marcus and the robot Lucas cross into a parallel world for the first time and find that the Moon's "Sea of Tranquility" really is a glowing silver sea. Then an accident sends the smallest moon-dust rabbit drifting toward the dark side.
